Wet Weather….Today in the News 2/28/2014:
Opening Statement:
Before we get to the day ahead in Today in the News please allow me to flash back to 11 years ago on this day. This day holds and will always hold special meaning to me because my life changed on 2/28/03. At the time I was working in the Foster Care system. On this day I had an hour to kill before my next appointment and thought I felt thirsty. So I drove to quench my thirst but it was the Surprise I got that would change my life forever. This is the day I met my Best Friend. I swore she was an Angel but not just any Angel, No, she was a Princess too. When we introduced ourselves to each other my first words out were “Are you Asian” She is and was thank goodness or I would have been extremely embarrassed, but it was those 3 words that would help change my life forever thus starting an amazing 11 years of friendship with one of the BEST friends a person could ask for.  (2003)Christy 2003

Viewers Voice: A bay area high school was within its rights to tell students wearing American Flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo to take them off or turn them inside out. An appeals court ruled school officials did not violate the constitutional rights of the students wearing the T-shirts. According to court documents, the incident occurred amid “ongoing racial tension and gang violence.” Our Viewers Voice question: Should schools be allowed to limit Freedom of Speech in the name of student safety?

Quick Thought:
Wine, Jobs, and Storm rule the day on My58
Fox40 talks Wedding, Wine, storm, and Mardi Gras event.
Good Day Sacramento blankets storm, sends out the tooth fairy, Goes to Ikea and talks toys
All this and more in Today in the News….
My58 covered the storm like the other 2 stations did today however they included best foods coming out of the Zinfindel country as well as Identity theft tips and if you are looking for work My58/KCRA is hiring.
Today on Fox Eric Harryman read for Reading Across America, Sabrina talked about Mardi Gras and Cajun Food event as well as a Wedding Event. Sabrina also talked about products made from cows that just totally turned my stomach watching. They had Idol Recap as well as complete storm coverage and Andis Wines in studio.
Good Day Sacramento:
Rain, Snow, Rain… The theme for this hour is nothing but wet weather. It is raining so hard in area’s that Lori Wallace can’t make it to her favorite coffee shop right down the road. Due to weather Show and Tell, Question of the day cancelled. Mark did have News of the Weird with a Monkey taking a camera, Marianne had fun facts about the Oscar Awards in her Daily List and the 5am Club Member was introduced.
In this hour the storm continues and so do the live reports from Sacramento, Stockton, Elk Grove and Donner Summit. Marianne had your Daily Joe where she showed Jeff Gordon taking a cab for a drive and Mark gave his first Oscar prediction for Best Animation – Frozen.
In this hour Mark continued with his Oscar predictions and at the same time meeting a local family heading to the award show after winning a contest. Courtney was talking fish because Star Eco is closing their doors Saturday and EVERYTHING must go and fish are FREE!!! Courtney was also talking new toys with Troy at G. Willikers
In this hour Marianne and Ken did back to back segments first with Cathy Kurtz about her Book Launch Event Saturday, March 1, 2014 4pm-6:30pm “Living Through Pain”. Then they went to a shopping preview in Stockton at Twice as Nice Rummage Sale. Mark continued with his Oscar Predictions. Cody was acting as a representative of the Tooth Fairy as one local Elk Grove School celebrates National Tooth Fairy Day. Cody was from the Southern Chapter. Mallary Hope took the Good Day Stage prior to her opening for Clint Black tonight and tomorrow in Folsom, her voice was beautiful. Marianne previewed Life 4 a Child Event coming up next month (March). The 9amtopic was introduced.. I wish I had instructions for___
Ken and Laura are today’s guides for the 9am hour walking us through the #9amtopic. Also in this hour Mark went to Ikea as they celebrate 8 years in West Sacramento. Cody was telling students whats bad for your teeth… Cody, Zoey is bad too? Oh well. Mark also made his final predictions for Oscar night and has to get 6 of 8 correct or he has debt to pay. I liked Cody’s and Courtney’s suggestions the best of the 3. Ken finished up his look at Black History for his Friday edition of Black History Month – Manly Minute. Laura and Ken looked at more GREAT prizes 4 the life of a child event and Mallary Hope performed one last song. Much like the day started with no question of the day it ended the same way with no question but we did officially dance into the weekend with Demi Lovato.
Final Thoughts:
The rain may have dampened the ground but not today’s shows well expect the reporters who had to brave the conditions. All of which did a great job and for the ladies Melissa, Lori, Alisa, Mae your hair looked great. Bad hair day or not  each of you handled with professionalism including Sean who braved the snow fall in the Summit.I can’t do the My58 employment for several reasons nor would I even if I could but if you always wanted to be on TV try it out, you never know where it might take you.

Fox you almost lost me with the cow story today. I can handle a lot but if you never showed the live cow it might have been better. I can even handle seeing #Halfcow Coming to Under the Doom season 2 on CBS but today was not the day for that. Otherwise you did great today.

Good Day Sacramento I love Oscar predictions from Mark S. Allen I really think he has 6 of 8 correct but Best Actor and Picture could be his 2 misses. (For a complete list of picks see at end of Final Thoughts.)
Loved Cody as the tooth. The one child who got $10 had our friend Cody sweating a little bit. I got dimes, nickels or quarters and that’s the way we liked it.

One final thought on today’s opening. Christy My Love, An Angel Princess, That Flies Without Wings you will always be just that. Thank you for a GREAT 11 years… Let’s do it again.

We have now danced into the weekend for Cody and Amy to take us through the weekend of fun filled entertainment including the Oscars and Mark’s picks.

Best Supporting Actress - Lupita Nyong’o
Best Actor - Matthew McConaughey

5. That Awkward Moment $5,540M

New Next Week:
1. About Last Night
2. Endless Love
3. RoboCop 2014
4. Winters Tale

Final Thoughts:
Box Office:numbers are in and the 3 week Ride Along is now over. Those Loveable Toys for Girls and Boys The Lego Movie unseated Ride Along from the top spot finishing over $69 Million Dollars. This movie is getting GLOWING Reviews including from Good Day Sacramento’s Cody Stark who saw it this weekend, saying “You gotta, & I mean GOTTA go see Lego Movie! FUNTASTIC! It’s frantic, funny, & weirdly enough, quite touching. 6 thumbs up (me + the kids)”. Here is a classic Ad from Lego  in the 1970’s from when I was a kid

Monuments Men also finished above Ride Along in the #2 spot. Ride Along still had a nice place finish ahead of Frozen and That Awkward Moment.

Since Rachel started Co-Hosting Mark at the Movies I would think viewership has risen. Rachel again did a phenomenal job and just continues to show signs of GREATNESS.

This weeks show saw a new Skype guest, Dominique from Beverly Hills Pawn joined to talk about Ride Along. Don’t get be wrong, the movie was good but I don’t know if it is 3 weeks in the top spot good. But the fact that has been speaks volumes.

Liam Mayclem from CBS 5 in San Francisco also joined via Skype this week to talk about Monuments Men although a glitch occurred and Mark and Rachel never got to chat with him. Despite the technical glitch Mark S. Allen is a true journalism professional and guided the segment through with his very unique British Accent which made for it to be a funny moment on the show.

Really enjoy seeing Heather Brent, Brooke Lusk,(Not pictured) Anna Wesselman all hanging out on the show and of course you can never go wrong with the lovable show announcer Big Al. maatm 228 1

Sarah Hyland from Vampire Academy talked via satellite about the film to both Rachel and Mark.

In a rare tear jerker, Mike Mechanik gave a very nice tribute to the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman who we lost a week ago. However if you watched the show Nationally on ReelzChannel you did not see it, This tribute only aired on #CW31 in the local Sacramento Market that I  can see it in. Nonetheless the tribute was very nice and did bring tears to my eyes.

Onto next week my prediction is The Lego Movie will finish #1 however look for strong showings from About Last Night and Endless Love with them both being released on Valentines Day. Not sure RoboCop’s release will help them next weekend nor am I even sure why they made it. The Original was fine it was the others after that really shouldn’t have been made. But I am also not very good in predicting so I could be completely wrong being I have yet to see this film.

All in all this week was another solid show and was full of Mark at the Movies fun that we all know and love.

Dominique from Beverly Hills Pawn – Dominique did a good job talking about Ride Along when she was this weeks Skype Guest on Mark at the Movies. You can catch Dominique each and every Wednesday on ReelzChannel on Beverly Hills Pawn.

Final Thoughts:
Before getting to the shows today one of the big stories was 3 different house fires. This is potentially dangerous not just for the obvious reasons but with the cold temps it could freeze the water in hydrants as well as hoses that would. Prevent firefighters from doing their job so make sure to be careful and takes steps to prevent fires from happening.
My58 had a decent show today. 2 stories that caught my eye were of Lisa talking about the differences of the new PS4 and Xbox One systems. The other story came from Mae with her showing the new museum at McClellan Park… This is worth checking out if you love history.
Fox40 today had a pretty good spotlight in Turlock by them helping those who need to stay out of the cold and sleep in a warm bed. The T-We was cool. I think the next time my best friend goes to the city she should check it out. The one thing I didn’t get was the Grinch at Sky Zone? For me it was creepy and a bit overwhelming to see a bunch of Grinch’s jumping and diving around.
Good Day Sacramento, How do you continue to do what you do each day? I loved today’s show. Kristin talking to the Citrus Farmers was a great story. Ju visiting viewers with cool Christmas decorations I love seeing things like that. Mark with our great friends of the show who up the tree total every year. You guys do awesome every year and you always step up year after year and now your giving back to charity is just awesome. I always love Ken’s Manly Minutes, they are always informative. Marianne had a GREAT Daily List today. I’ve done the meatloaf but not the other two.
Terry Sheets, I’m not a country music fan but man they sounded good. I am 100% convinced the CBS13/CW31 weather department led by Cody Stark and Laura Skirde is the BEST in the business when the temps heat up or freeze my face off like today. It was so cold this morning Penguins laughed at me. GREAT JOB BY you two.
Perhaps my favorite segment of the day came toward the end of the show with Courtney & Kerrie Kelly. I know nothing about decorating but what Kerrie does is amazing. I love see what she and the Kerrie Kelly Design Lab come up with every time she is on Good Day Sacramento. I think the first time we met Kerrie was on the Weekend show years ago with Ashley Williams.
Nice shows by all 3 today. So what’s ahead tomorrow? Find out here on Today in the News…

Final Thoughts:
It was a record setting Thanksgiving at the theater for Hunger Games and Frozen but before getting to to that I want to talk about the events that occurred on Saturday with the loss of actor Paul Walker. As you know by now star of the Fast & Furious movies was Tragically lost in a vehicle accident along with his friend and driver of the car which they traveled in. At first like many it had the look and feel of a hoax because of the headlines being written. An hour or so after these reports Paul’s team released a statement confirming his death. Shocked as everyone and sadden by the loss. What is shocking to me is Paul is best known for his roles in Fast & Furious but he has been in a lot of films such as Varsity Blues, Pleasantville and Monster in the Closet just to name a few. Fast & Furious 6 releases on Blu Ray/DVD on December 10 to honor Paul we the fans should purchase it. Earlier today Mark S. Allen appeared on Good Day Sacramento via Skype to talk about his times talking to Paul. Here is that interview. paul paul waker
Hunger Games & Frozen set Thanksgiving weekend records at the box office and they ruled Mark at the Movies this week as well. The show was a good show and I really enjoyed the takes of both Mark & Anna but perhaps the highlight came when Mike broke into song during his rant.
With that I will see you at the movies and next week for another edition of Mark at the Movies.

Don’t Go Away Hungry…. Today in the News 11/26/2013

Opening Statement:
As I’m sitting and watching the 49’ers take on Washington I was thinking about how fans can be and how they act. Most of the time they are civil with the occasional knucklehead who has way too much beer. But then you get idiots who either have too much to drink or are just plain stupid. Either way the events at 2 NFL stadiums over the last 2 weeks should not be occurring. Last week a fan at my favorite teams stadium (Buffalo) tried to slide down a rail only to fall 300 feet. Sunday this week a woman jumped 50 feet and as a man tried to catch her she injured this mans arm so badly I’m surprised he can still use it. Let’s stay classy not just at sporting events but in general. Here’s is what’s happening Today in the News……

Final Thoughts:
It appears this week on the shows will be much about food. My58 and Good Day Sacramento covered the great people at Loaves and fishes as they prepare meals for the homeless starting today. Plus Fox covered a similar event in Stockton. The food theme continued on Fox with an squash soup for Bethany.
Good Day Sacramento kept the food theme throughout the show with it being National Cake day viewers sent pictures of cakes. Not to be out done Amy went from behind the scenes of Loaves & Fishes to making pies at Marie Callender’s.
Mark offered a Catching Fire Hunger Games edition of tasting hot food and viewers stepped up. First he went to River Edge Café for pepper induced breakfast and then to Dion Taylor’s home for Fire breathing chicken wings only to top that off with sushi from Taro.
Courtney went to a local viewer who is helping to feed 50 people in his community.
Stepping away from the table it’s time to exercise so Kristin went to revisit Jazz as he got his workout in while he waits for a good home to go to.
With any food shopping you need a cart, so today Marianne & Ken met the man who made the shopping cart for Savemart that they use at the Savemart 350. This BIG cart would get your shopping done in no time flat and it is motorized so no pushing. They also talked to a woman who has a mobile kitchen selling gadgets for all your cooking needs and they talked to Music Legend Garth Brooks about his final show in Vegas. Finally Ju joined the Apo Chick for cool new gadgets for your iPhone.
All 3 shows did well today. We are officially in giving back to the needy now and though I love that we should do it year round.
Reminder tomorrow on Good Day Sacramento is the 8th Annual Lumpia Competition so Today in the News will cover that as well as Good Day Sacramento & Fox40.
Until then. Don’t eat too much.

Monday Night Football:
San Francisco traveled to the Nations Capital to take on RG III and the Redskins. Well that was the plan but little did the 49’ers know the Washington Offensive would decide not to show up. Turlock native Collin Kaepernick found his arm throwing 3 TD passes and San Fran won 27-6.

Final Thoughts:
Wow! Today’s show was so GREAT I don’t know how to express in words. Starting in the 7am hour Nina previewed the Miss Sac USA pageant that she will be the emcee for tonight. Melissa had breakfast with Vets Christianne made chocolate Ms. Eleanor had all the great juicy gossip. But perhaps my favorite thing this hour was the Skype with Toby Philpott who was the left arm & tongue of Jabba the Hut. His stories were remarkable.
In the 8am hour Christianne showed an amazing chocolate turkey. Nina started her transformation into a beauty queen though she already is in my opinion. Tina was Dishin from a pizza place that just looks so good. The Makeup Geek answered viewer questions after giving makeup tips. Cody & Amy also had another Skype guest. This time was a couple who started a wedding in a box. Before knowing much about it I was a bit skeptical but after they explained it I get it. Before you love another you must love yourself. People who suffer from low self esteem like I do can benefit from this program to learn loving yourself will pick up your self esteem.
We also learned a life lesson from Mike on the Mic who can be seen at River Cats games pumping up the crowd talked about him being bullied, what kids can do to get help and about the recent events in the NFL involving the Dolphins. I included a recent statement from Jonathan Martin below. READ AT OWN RISK! Not suitable for kids barely for adults. My favorite part of the 8 was Melissa at the Forgotten Warriors Museum. This museum is epic. I got shakes just watching and remembering the stories I’ve heard on my visits to the Museum.
In the 9am Nina & Melissa continued in their live shots from the 8 while Cody checked out toys from Willikers Toy Emporium, Christianne learned business tips from Business Intuitive Cody talked to Fogdoc who makes anti fog & glare products great for the slopes. and THE GREAT FAIZON LOVE joined Cody & Amy in studio. He joined Cody for toys and did the absolute BEST weather report complete with booty pop I’ve ever seen.
In the 10 we saw the reveal of what Nina learned & how beautiful she looked. Melissa visited the WWII section at the Museum. Christianne continued her segment from the 9. Amy got to play with toys from G. Willikers. Lori gave us Pinterest ideas & Hot Headlines. Cody and Amy more Cody learned all about Thor from Empire Comics and finally not only did we learn from Javier’s reading what does the fox say we also learned from NHI’s Massage Therapy School what a massage does.
It was a jammed packed four hours of GREATNESS today on Good Day Sacramento and I am grateful for all they did.
Looking ahead:
Today at 130/11pm Thor Edition of Mark at the Movies and the highlights from the show.
Tomorrow on Good Day Sacramento Mark S. Allen attempts his second swim to Alcatraz. He’s been training extremely hard for this.
Veterans Day Remember all they do for us.
Until then have a GREAT DAY!

Jonathan Martin Statement… WARNING LANGUAGE!!!!!! Editor’s note: The following statement contains language that many might find offensive.

NFL Media obtained a statement Thursday night from sports attorney David Cornwell, counsel for Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin.

Below is the statement from Cornwell, the first public comments he’s issued on Martin’s situation.

“Jonathan Martin’s toughness is not at issue,” Cornwell said in the statement. “Jonathan has started every game with the Miami Dolphins since he was drafted in 2012. At Stanford, he was the anchor for Jim Harbaugh’s “smash mouth” brand of football and he protected Andrew Luck’s blind side.

“The issue is Jonathan’s treatment by his teammates. Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker-room hazing. For the entire season-and-a-half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment. This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying. Despite these efforts, the taunting continued. Beyond the well-publicized voice mail with its racial epithet, Jonathan endured a malicious physical attack on him by a teammate, and daily vulgar comments such as the quote at the bottom. These facts are not in dispute.

“Eventually, Jonathan made a difficult choice. Despite his love for football, Jonathan left the Dolphins. Jonathan looks forward to getting back to playing football. In the meantime, he will cooperate fully with the NFL investigation.”

“Quote from teammate: “We are going to run train on your sister. … She loves me. I am going to f*** her without a condom and c** in her c***.”

Martin has been absent from the Dolphins since last week after a cafeteria prank. NFL Media’s Steve Wyche reported earlier Thursday that Martin has hired Cornwell to advise him in the Dolphins case involving Richie Incognito.

Final #Questionoftheday: I hate this game… Which one?

Final Thoughts:
With the holiday season over a month away it’s time to think about decorating for Theater of Lights Show that begins at 6pm November 27. in Old Sacramento hosted by Good Day Sacramento’s own Mark S. Allen. So with that said the tree was delivered today and it was a full media blitz with all 3 stations covering it.
On My58 Lisa previewed the Miss Universe pageant. Isn’t she already Miss Universe? No need to find another one all the way in Russia for that. On their tips to become rich… I failed so I will just keep up on all the gossip with Ask Eleanor Sundays on Good Day Sacramento and on the Internet on Ask Eleanor Facebook while counting my calories.
I loved the Pet of the Fox 40 pet of the week. The dog was so cute and vets adopt FREE this weekend.
Good Day Sacramento went above and beyond entertaining today. Starting the show off with video of Ken’s son helping him to practice the cup song was so cute. In the 5am hour they sent Cody Ghost hunting in a cemetery and the machine he had started talking to him not only freaking him out but me as well. It’s not Halloween anymore stop giving me heart attacks. That freaked me out and then to top it off Marianne played a recording that made employees quit in fear. Loved the segment though. In the 6am hour we got the scoop on Weird or Worth it. Oh it’s weird but a good idea for outdoor activity like camping so it’s worth it. It was also revealed the mud on Melissa was chocolate cake. I don’t have confirmation but I would guess this spot was thought of by Mike Mechanick who you can see rant weekly on Mark at the Movies on Reelzchannel Friday 9/6am, CW31 Sunday at 130/11pm and on Armed Forces Network check listings.
7am aka SHOWTIME! It was the Good Day Sacramento remake of Young Frankenstein starting Jason Maloney and Mark S. Allen living out Toots dream of tap dancing. For the record Elizabeth from Fancy Feet did a job so well training these 2 she herself deserves a metal. They did really well. I was impressed. Then the fun with Cooley Middle School began first by scaring Audrey at the news desk. Then they got to welcome employees of CBS/Good Day Sacramento as they entered in the building including 1 special guest who went from Police woman to Internet Price is Right to Good Day Sacramento ROCK STAR status in a matter of days. This beautiful soul needs her own wig segment. She was funny.
